An independent panel of nursing experts sent by the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) have begun an investigation into inadequate staffing concerns at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC). The investigation, focused on KGH’s Connell 10 internal medicine unit, kicked off on Monday due to the ONA and members feeling that the “current work environment fails to support the delivery of quality, safe patient care and puts these vulnerable patients at risk of serious harm”, with an aim of ultimately improving the specialized care patients receive in the unit.An Independent Assessment Committee (IAC) at a specific unit is deemed necessary when concerns have already been brought to the attention of the employer but the issues haven’t been resolved to the satisfaction of nurses or the ONA. We’ve been running warm. For 3 consecutive days, Miami has warmed into the middle 80’s (5-degrees above average for this point in November). There’s more of it on the way. In fact, the warmest and most muggy-feeling day of the week will be on Wednesday. That’s when local winds briefly turn out of the south. That’s also going to provide an excellent chance for registering a record high, with the current record, in Miami, standing at 86-degrees. Meanwhile, plan on seeing a good amount of sunshine with dry conditions. You might be thankful for some minor weather changes, beginning Thanksgiving Day. A weak front is forecast to slip across south Florida which could trigger some isolated showers. Thursday’s temperatures will tend to feel more seasonable, too. Highs will peak closer to 80-degrees with comfortable conditions holding throughout the holiday. Sometimes frontal boundaries make a clean passage and we frequently see them race away. Boston’s official 2023 Christmas tree arrived at Boston Common from Nova Scotia Tuesday ahead of this year’s scheduled tree lighting later this month. Santa Claus was on hand to help welcome the new tree to Boston. Crews were later seen working to secure the tree in place. This year’s tree is a 40-year-old white spruce. It stands 45-feet tall and was donated by landowner Bette Gourley in the town of Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia has, for decades, sent a tree to Boston as a sign of thanks for relief efforts after a massive explosion in Halifax, Nova Scotia in December, 1917. The explosion happened aboard a munitions ship in Halifax Harbor and devastated part of the city. Boston quickly sent a train loaded with supplies and emergency personnel to aid with the response, as described in a statement from the office of Mayor Michelle Wu.Back for an 82nd year, this year’s Boston Common Tree Lighting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30. Festivities will kick off at 6 p.m...Latest news
