DENVER (KDVR) — The mother of a fallen Denver Police Department officer is in need of help.Dorothy Hollis is the mother of Celena Hollis. Celena, a seven-year Denver Police officer, was killed in the line of duty at a jazz festival in June of 2012.“I think about it every day,” Dorothy said. “I miss my child.”Now, Dorothy, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, is fighting for her life battling uterine cancer. Pueblo mom shot twice, survived attempted carjacking The cancer has affected her eyesight.“Just praying and asking the community to pray with me so that I can regain my sight," Dorothy said.Dorothy begins round three of chemotherapy later this month. DURANGO, Colo. (KDVR) — Last week, three people were caught in a roof slide at one of the Purgatory Ski Resort condos, and more high avalanche danger continues Wednesday. The slide happened last Thursday around 6 p.m., and the heavy snow fell from the roof of a Purgatory Ski Resort condo and struck a parent and two children. The extent of their injuries has not been made public, but all three were flown by aircraft to medical facilities. How much snowfall did Denver get this winter? This roof slide is classified as an avalanche and the Pinpoint Weather team continues to forecast high avalanche danger Wednesday and through the weekend. MONTE VISTA, Colo. (KXRM) — A man died in Monte Vista on Tuesday after he allegedly rushed officers with knives and officers fired a Taser and shots at him, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.The CBI said two members of the Monte Vista Police Department responded around 12:35 p.m. to a home in the 1200 block of South Broadway Street for a welfare check. Mother of slain DPD officer needs help in fight against cancer Shortly after officers arrived, a man reportedly jumped out a window of the home, armed with two knives, and immediately ran toward the officers while swinging the weapons.CBI confirmed that a Taser was used on the suspect, and officers also fired shots at him outside the home. A major investigation is currently underway at an apartment complex on Northwest 74th and 23rd Court after the body of a deceased teenager was found in the parking lot. Police said they got a shot spotter alert around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night which led them to the discovery of the victim. According to police, the victim is known to them because he has involvement in previous shooting investigations.The body of the victim was covered in a yellow tarp as at least three crime scene investigation vans and several officers started collecting bags of evidence. The crime scene vans have left the scene but the investigation remains active as police tape ropes the crime scene. Local residents are understandably nervous about the police activity and are anxious for answers. The teen’s identity has not been revealed as police search for his next of kin. NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Two inmates in a Virginia jail used primitively made tools to create a hole in the wall of their cell and escape, only to be found hours later at an IHOP restaurant nearby, a sheriff said.Authorities discovered the two men, ages 37 and 43, missing from their cell in the Newport News jail annex during a routine head count Monday evening, according to a statement from the Newport News Sheriff’s Office.A preliminary investigation found the men exploited a weakness in the jail’s construction design and used tools made from a toothbrush and a metal object to access rebars between the walls — and then used the rebar to further their escape, the statement said.
